WILL YOU STILL BE MY FRIEND

In a rural fishing village in southern Taiwan, 13-year-old Jun (Jaden Wang) shares a secret bond with Jasper (Aloysius Loo), a Singaporean boy whose family has relocated to the community for their solar energy business. As tensions grow between local villagers and the newcomers, the boys find themselves caught on opposing sides of an increasingly bitter dispute. Jun tries to help Jasper find acceptance among the local boys while quietly confronting feelings that may extend beyond friendship.

When Jasper’s parents accuse Jun’s grandfather, the village chief, of corruption, the adults’ conflict threatens to fracture the boys’ relationship for good. Inspired by director Lu Po-Shun’s return to his rural hometown during the pandemic, WILL YOU STILL BE MY FRIEND is a gentle, deeply felt feature debut about childhood loyalty, first love, and emotional discovery. Against a community divided by suspicion and change, two boys navigate the fragile space between friendship and something more.
