In war-torn Yemen, Layal runs a women-only gas station that has become an unlikely sanctuary from the violence beyond its gates. Here, the rules are simple: no men, no weapons, no politics. Within this fragile refuge, women find community and a fleeting sense of normalcy amid a country fractured by conflict. But when Layal’s younger brother is drafted, the war she has fought to keep outside suddenly becomes deeply personal. Desperate to save him, Layal must reunite with her estranged sister, forcing both women to confront old wounds while navigating impossible choices shaped by family, duty, and survival. One of the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival, THE STATION marks the fiction feature directorial debut of Yemeni-Scottish filmmaker Sara Ishaq. Intimate yet expansive, the film offers a deeply human portrait of women creating their own space of resilience and solidarity while the forces of war threaten to tear apart what remains of their family.
