THE HOUSE ON THE MOON
On the moon lives Chang Er, a fairy maiden, alongside her beloved Hou Yi, the legendary archer who once shot down the suns. But when Hou Yi disappears while attempting to save a dying sun, Chang Er refuses to wait for his return. Joined by an unlikely astronaut from Earth, she ventures across the moon’s mysterious dark side in search of the man she loves, embarking on a cosmic odyssey where ancient mythology collides with science fiction, romance, and adventure.
Inspired by the Chinese legend of Chang Er and Hou Yi, director Nelson Yeo reimagines one of Asia’s most enduring myths through the anything-goes spirit of 1990s Hong Kong cinema. Drawing on the genre-defying movies he discovered in VHS stores as a child, Yeo gleefully blends fantasy, sci-fi, melodrama, and action into an imaginative lunar love story. At once nostalgic and boldly contemporary, THE HOUSE ON THE MOON celebrates the exhilarating possibilities of cinema, where mythology can be reinvented and love can transcend worlds.
