THE BLOB: A Night Of Gore & Score

Few films embody the glorious excess of ’80s horror quite like THE BLOB (1988). Directed by the late Chuck Russell, who passed away earlier this year, this wildly inventive remake takes the premise of the 1958 sci-fi classic and transforms it into something meaner, nastier, and arguably better. When a mysterious gelatinous organism crashes near a small California town, it begins consuming everything—and everyone—in its path, growing larger and more unstoppable with each victim.

Powered by spectacular practical effects that rival THE THING and some of the most imaginative, jaw-dropping kills of the decade, THE BLOB remains an underrated genre gem begging to be rediscovered on the big screen.

On Halloween Eve, HIFF celebrates Russell’s legacy with THE BLOB: GORE AND SCORE, featuring Hawai‘i musician, artist, and actor Holden Mandrial-Santos (MOLOKA’I BOUND), who remixes and synchronizes soundtracks live to this cult classic for a one-of-a-kind audiovisual horror experience.
