THE ASSASSIN(S)

암살자(들)

Based on the shocking events of August 15, 1974, when an assassination attempt on South Korean President Park Chung-hee resulted in the death of First Lady Yuk Young-soo, the latest from veteran director Hur Jin-ho (CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST, A NORMAL FAMILY) transforms a pivotal moment in Korean history into a gripping conspiracy thriller. Starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, the film follows police and journalists determined to uncover the truth behind a case riddled with unanswered questions.

Blending historical records with dramatic interpretation, Hur revisits the investigation through the lens of a country shaped by dictatorship, martial law and Cold War paranoia, as well as the lingering consequences of Japanese colonialism and postwar American influence. Propelled by the breakneck conspiratorial energy of JFK and the journalistic tenacity of SPOTLIGHT, the film transforms an unresolved national trauma into an urgent procedural about power, political repression and the dangerous pursuit of truth.
