TAKE ME HOME

Expanded from Sargent’s acclaimed short film, which premiered at HIFF in 2023, this feature both explores the challenges faced by disabled individuals and the families who care for them and exposes the gaps in America’s healthcare system. Yet the film remains deeply hopeful, tracing Anna’s journey toward independence and chosen family. TAKE ME HOME had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. The film’s European premiere followed, at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) where it was presented as part of the Berlinale’s Perspectives competition. 

This film is presented as part of the New American Perspectives program. Developed in partnership with the Vilcek Foundation, the program shines a spotlight on immigrant and foreign-born artists, celebrating the powerful impact that diversity has on contemporary cinema and storytelling in the United States.

Writer and director Liz Sargent will participate in a post-screening Q&A on Sunday, October 25 and the New American Perspectives panel discussion at Honolulu Civil Beat on Monday, October 26.
