SHADOW WORK

After escaping an abusive husband, Noriko (Riho Yoshioka) finds refuge in “Ouchi” (“The Home”), a secluded shelter where women fleeing domestic and familial violence seek safety and a chance to rebuild their lives. Supported by a community of survivors, she slowly begins to recover a sense of dignity and belonging. Yet beneath Ouchi’s calm and protective atmosphere, Noriko becomes aware of unsettling inconsistencies that hint at a darker hidden truth.

At the same time, Kaoru (Nao), a detective investigating a mysterious case, struggles with the echoes of violence and control within her own marriage. As her investigation leads her closer to Ouchi, the lives of the two women begin to intersect. Blending suspense thriller tropes with a powerful exploration of gender-based violence, SHADOW WORK examines resilience, solidarity, and the difficult choices people face when justice and survival come into conflict.
