SAMURAI VENGEANCE

木挽町のあだ討ち

Edo, 1810. Seventeen-year-old Kikunosuke, son of a murdered samurai, avenges his father by confronting Sakubai, the treacherous former retainer responsible for his death. Their spectacular duel erupts outside a theater before a crowd emerging from a performance of 47 RONIN. With Sakubai’s severed head in hand, Kikunosuke restores his family’s honor and seemingly secures their future. Eighteen months later, smooth-talking ronin Soichiro Kase arrives at the theater, asking questions about the celebrated revenge and Kikunosuke’s mysterious ties to its company. His investigation unsettles the theater’s eccentric ensemble: barker Ippachi, swordsmanship instructor Sagara, costumer Hotaru, craftsman Kyuzo, and playwright Kinji, each seemingly determined to keep the past buried. But as Kase digs deeper, cracks appear in the heroic tale. What really happened that night? As secrets surface, the boundaries between theater and real life begin to blur, revealing that revenge itself may have been the greatest performance of all.
