NAZA

Filmed under the cover of darkness on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, NAZA is a searing investigative documentary examining the systems behind Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza and the mass killing of Palestinian civilians. Through testimony from 24 anonymous Israeli intelligence officers and soldiers, directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor reveal the technologies, calculations, and bureaucratic processes used to select targets and determine acceptable civilian casualties. The title refers to an Israeli military acronym used to indicate the number of civilians expected to be killed in an airstrike. Building on investigative reporting published between 2023 and 2025, NAZA turns its attention to the machinery of modern warfare and the human consequences of decisions made from afar. Abraham and Szor, two of the four directors behind Academy Award-winning NO OTHER LAND, which screened at HIFF 2024, return with an urgent examination of accountability, complicity, and the systems that normalize civilian death. The film world premiered at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, where it received a 25-minute standing ovation, and would win the Special Jury Prize.
