LA BOLA NEGRA

Following its critically acclaimed debut at the Cannes Film Festival, LA BOLA NEGRA arrives as an ambitious tapestry of desire, memory and queer identity spanning nearly a century of Spanish history. Set across three distinct eras, 1932, 1937 and 2017, the film follows three generations of men whose lives become intimately connected through love, pain and a shared inheritance that reverberates across time.

Cannes-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, collectively known as Los Javis, draw inspiration from the life and work of legendary Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, who was assassinated in 1936. Taking its title from Lorca’s unfinished play, the film was co-written with Alberto Conejero and adapted from his play LA PIEDRA OSCURA alongside Lorca’s writings. Bold, sensual and deeply cinematic, LA BOLA NEGRA reimagines Lorca’s enduring legacy through a contemporary queer lens, exploring how forbidden desire, historical trauma and love are carried from one generation to the next.
