GAMALAND
沢田美由紀のガマランドにお邪魔します
Hidden within the raw footage of a 1990s Japanese television program lies a disturbing record of Gamaland, an abandoned amusement park whose elderly owner simply describes it as “lonely.” Inspired by a news clip about Gamaland, VHS enthusiast and aspiring director Kohei, convinces his girlfriend Miyuki to participate in a documentary expedition to the mysterious park. As deleted footage emerges, the boundary between documentation, fabrication, and something more sinister begins to dissolve.
Think City Pop meets found footage, with the uncanny dread of SKINAMARINK and the authenticity of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. Director Hiroki Nishii, creator of the popular YouTube channel Filmest TV, meticulously recreates the texture, rhythms, and analog imperfections of 1990s Japanese television. Evoking vintage Japanese ghost programs once discovered on rental VHS tapes, GAMALAND achieves remarkable verisimilitude—an eerie artifact seemingly unearthed from another era and destined for cult status.
